Rubyha McKenzie began her extensive teaching career at the high school level in Trinidad and Tobago and has since then trained and taught in a number of countries always bringing inspiration and joy to the classroom. She is committed to the Montessori method of education and is highly skilled in guiding children towards their full potential. Rubyha's love for learning and her multicultural experiences enrich her classrooms and complement her skills. She has taught in Trinidad, Guyana, Maryland and New York and most recently at Weston Montessori - now called Renaissance/PT Montessori in Toronto.
Rubyha trained at the well-recognized AMI Institute in London receiving her primary level AMI Montessori certification for children ages 21/2 to 5 in 1972. Motivated by a need to provide schooling for her own children in a group setting, she established her first co-operative Montessori pre-school in Georgetown, Guyana, where she lived during the late 70s.
She later obtained her B.A. in community studies from American University in Washington D.C. and began a fulfilling and enlightening teaching experience at Casa de Montessori, an AMI Montessori pre-school in Maryland. During her fourteen- year tenure at this school, Rubyha taught at the primary level and managed before and after school programs, as well as creating and implementing summer programs. Teaching at the Montessori primary level and gaining skills in school administration, Rubyha was an active member of the Resurrection Episcopal Day School faculty in New York City for four years.
Rubyha attended the Washington Montessori Institute at Loyola Campus in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated with an Elementary AMI Diploma for children ages 6-12 (2001), and a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in 2003.
She now brings all her knowledge, experience, insight and wisdom to administering, and teaching at The Joy of Learning Montessori School in the Hamilton community.
